Ancestry
Qualifying for UK Ancestry
The Basic Requirements:
- you are a Commonwealth citizen
- you are aged 17 or over
- you have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
- you have a grandparent who was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland before 31 March 1922

Before you would be considered for approval you must demonstrate to the Entry Clearance Office that you intend to look for work when you arrive in the UK. We recommend that you actively look for work whilst you are in the process of collecting documentation for your Ancestry application, and keep a record of all of the applicaiton you have made and keep a copy of any responses. The best way to do this is to make applications via email.
If you employ the services of Warner Pride we will guarantee to get an Ancestry visa for you or refund 150% of our fee, after we have first assessed the likelihood of approval being granted.
You will be granted an Ancestry visa for five years and you can work on an employed basis or be self-employed.
Taking your family with you
Your husband, wife, civil partner or eligible partner and children under 18 years of age can join you in the UK if:
- they have a visa for this purpose, and
- you can support them without needing any help from public funds.
Note: if you or your parent (who you are claiming ancestry through) are adopted, you can still apply for entry to the UK under this category. You must show evidence of the legal adoption with your application form.
