Two new policy announcements for Tier 4
New policy for Tier 4 sponsors
General
Tier 1 (General) - Employed or Self-Employed
This category can be considered as the top choice for overseas nationals, with the exception of Indefinite Leave to remain (aka, permanent residency). It gives the holder complete freedom to work for others as an employed person, to work as a self-employed person, or to be the owner of a Limited company.
There are four main 'Attributes' for which you are awarded point. Once you reach the magic 80 core points you will be close to meeting the requirements for switching to the Tier 1 (General) visa, but you will then be required to meet two further attributes. The first four attributes consist of the following:
- Qualifications (30,35, or 45 points awarded) - Bachelor, Master Degree or PhD
- Previous Earnings (5 to 80 points awarded)
- UK Experience via study or earnings (5 points awarded)
- Age up to 39 (5 to 20 points awarded)
If you meet the magic 80 points you will then need to meet the two other attributes, one which is likely to be easy, the other perhaps difficult for many. Let's begin with the easy.
- Language Requirements (10 points awarded)
You must provide evidence that you speak English to the required standard, which is IELTS 6.5, or an equivalent (there is a defined list of suitable alternatives). However, if your degree was gained in the UK, or a select list of other countries, you would automatically be awarded 10 points. Please contact us for further details.
